Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn
Speculation (4th November 2006)

Just some random thoughts (and intelligent guesses) about the game. Few of this has been confirmed (yet), so don't go using this page as a source of information!

Sothe

The boy thief from Path of Radiance seems to reprise an important role in this game. Along with Mikaya, he has featured in two teaser movies and is the only character (other than Mikaya) to have their official art revealed. Some people believe this is evidence enough that he will be a main character. Also Sothe has a new knife weapon, Kard, which could be a personal weapon. In the more recent titles, personal weapons usually belong to main characters only (with the exception of Rolf's Bow).

Gameplay-wise, some people suggest that Sothe will be the Jeigan (a term that some fans use for a powerful promoted unit who joins in the very first chapter, whose primary role is to act as a guardian unit- such characters include Marcus, Seth and Titania) of this game. Initially Noyce, the axe user, was speculated to be the Jeigan, but it was discovered that he starts off as an enemy and is unpromoted. The only real suggestions that Sothe will be a Jeigan are that he has the second highest HP of the party and takes relatively low damage from enemies.

A recent scan confirmed Sothe's class as Thief, although this only appears to be half of the story. According to Japanese players at the Nintendo World event, Sothe is a Level 1 Thief (Rogue) with extremely high stats, indicating that he may be a promoted unit. Along with the fact that Kard does not seem to be a personl weapon, this makes it unlikely that Sothe is a main character. However it should be stressed that this is not proof that he is not a main character.

Mikaya

Not much is known about her, aside from the fact that she is a Light Mage. As with Sothe, many think that she will be a main character for most of the reasons as discussed above. In the GameVideos movie (14 Sep 2006), when control resumes to the Player it can be seen that the cursor has automatically moved onto her. This "auto cursor" function featured in previous games and has always had the cursor move back to the main lead...

According to Japanese players at the Nintendo World event, Mikaya can speak in a mysterious language, similar yet different to that of the Herons' galldr (I have not seen it myself). Previously I expected Mikaya to be the reincarnation (or descendant) of the Goddess Ashera, but this seems to be have been disproven. When Mikaya defeats a bandit in one of the gameplay videos, she says something along the lines of "may the blessing of the Goddess reach any person...", which implies the Goddess exists outside of Mikaya.

Eddie

A swordfighter who some assumed to be just a Myrmidon and others thought might be a Lord/main character. From information gathered from the Nintendo World event, it seems Eddie is a more important character than I previously thought. His death in both (?) chapters of the demo led to a Game Over, although I cannot find any confirmation for what happens when Mikaya or Sothe dies. Also aside from Mikaya, he is the only character that you control from the very start of the game (assuming there is no Prologue chapter).

Begnion

The enemies in the latest movies have the name "Imperial Soldier", which means they are soldiers of the Empire. Begnion is the only Empire of Tellius, so it's obvious that Begnion (or part of it) will be an enemy in this game. If this is the case, Begnion characters from the previous game, like Sigrun, Zelgius and Sephiran may turn up as bosses...

Current strife?

In Path of Radiance, Ike discovered that Begnion intended to retake Crimea, although he was cleverly able to avoid their plans. Three years later, it is possible that Begnion may still want to take control of Crimea, as well as the fallen Kingdom of Daein. Begnion's invasion of Crimea and Daein could be the new war, or a trigger for it.

Caineghis' role

One of the movies shows Mikaya facing off against the Lion King, Caineghis. Since Mikaya has 0 critical rate and performs a critical, this could mean that it was just a demo battle to show off the game's graphics and animations. However I personally have a suspicion that this battle will feature in the finished game in some form...

Alondite and Ragnell

The game's logo shows two swords, which look very similar to the sacred blades Alondite and Ragnell. It is possible that the two swords will show up again- perhaps this means that the Alondite-wielding Black Knight will make a return (assuming he's still alive)... and maybe the Ragnell-wielding Ike as well.

Goddess of Dawn

The game's title, which probably refers to the Goddess Ashera, who once fought the Dark God with the help of the Three Heroes. This might be a hint that the battle between the Goddess and the Dark God may reappear in this game... Also Mikaya mentions the "Goddess" when she defeats an enemy.

The Dawn Group

This appears to be Mikaya's group of mercenaries or fighters, who are fighting for peace. The "Dawn" in the group's name is likely a reference to the Goddess Ashera. Perhaps this group (or Mikaya) has strong links with the Goddess?
